Do you know what Lambayeque's top exports are?

Exports from our regions are an important driving force for the country’s growth. Last year, domestic exports increased 18.9% over 2017, with Piura, Ica, La Libertad, Ancash, Tacna, San Martín and Lambayeque being the regions with the highest export value.

In 2018, Lambayeque was one of the most dynamic regions, with its shipments totaling US$ 525 million, thanks to the products that make up its new export basket.

Blueberries, grapes, avocados, mangoes, passion fruit juice and bell peppers are among the main products exported by the northern region. This was reported by Alfonso Velásquez Tuesta, president of the Association of Exporters (ADEX), who also stressed the export growth of Lambayeque, a region that achieved more than 400 million dollars of income in non-traditional products in the period 2017-2018.

"Avocados have gone from $28 million to $60 million, blueberries from $11 million to $58 million and grapes from $37 million to $51 million. It's really surprising, but it's the result of investment and the great decision of businesses to commit to this region," said Velásquez.

The businessman also indicated that there are other products from the region that are expected to have significant growth, such as lemons and pomegranates.

Growth continues

Adex reported that in the first two months of 2019, exports from Lambayeque totaled US$ 82,283,000, increasing 37.4% over the same period in 2018.

Traditional shipments (US$ 13,770,000) grew 112.3 %, while non-traditional shipments (US$ 68 million 512 thousand) showed a rise of 28.3 %. It should be noted that 81.4% of all shipments are from the value-added agro-industrial sector.

The products that stood out the most are grapes, coffee, blueberries, fresh mangoes, preserved bell peppers, passion fruit juice and others.

Main export destinations

In the first two months of 2019, the US stands out as the top destination market for Lambayeque exports with US$ 31,963,000 and a 38.85 % share. It is followed by the Netherlands, with US$ 12,581,000 and a 15.3 % share.

It is followed by Germany with US$ 5,802,000 and a 7% share, and Ecuador and the United Kingdom in 4th and 5th position.

The markets to which Lambayeque exported the most last year were the United States, the Netherlands, Ecuador, the United Kingdom, Germany and Belgium.
