Peru among the safest tourist destinations in the continent

This is according to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), which awarded the South American country the prestigious Safe Travels Stamp, which certifies that the destination meets all the international hygiene and biosafety standards.
Peru is the third country in South America to receive this distinction. This means that, once tourism activities finally start up again, travelers will be able to come to the land of the Incas with complete confidence in the health measures.
The award was received by the President of the Council of Ministers, Walter Martos, and the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Rocío Barrios, at a ceremony held on October 13 in the citadel of Machu Picchu (Cusco).
The presentation of the Safe Travels award was done through a call in which the president and CEO of the WTTC, Gloria Guevara Manzo, participated and took a moment to highlight that Peru is considered a great travel destination at an international level.
"I would like to congratulate Peru for being among the top destinations in the world to have obtained the WTTC seal of approval. I wish them every success in this recovery process," she said.
In this way, Machu Picchu, the Nasca Lines, the beaches of Piura, the Paracas National Reserve, and many other attractions, will welcome travelers under the best conditions so that they can enjoy the rich landscape and culture of one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
Tourism with a guarantee
There's nothing like feeling safe while traveling. Which is why this stamp of approval is so important for Peru. Safe Travels is a set of protocols designed in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines in order to create a general policy in the tourism industry and to restore trust among travelers.
After the presentation of the recognition, Minister Barrios highlighted the importance of this stamp, which shows that the Peruvian Government is fully committed to the tourism sector and the importance of its reactivation.
"Tourism is the economic activity that has been hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, to help reactivate it, we want to offer visitors the best possible travel experience, with quality tourist destinations and services which comply with strict biosafety protocols. We have the commitment of the public and private sector. We’re getting ready to start again, it’s time," said the minister.
For her part, WTTC President and CEO Gloria Guevara added that the stamp is a fundamental step in restoring consumer confidence and ensuring that travelers can rest easy knowing that improved hygiene standards exist.
"Coordination and alignment within the travel and tourism sector is vital to ensure that robust global measures are in place to help restore confidence and are taken jointly by governments and the private sector," she added.
Currently, Peru has 8 tourism biosafety protocols implemented by Cenfotur and which follow the guidelines of the WTTC. These guidelines follow the WHO protocols.
