Well-known stars of Peruvian gastronomy will gather on September 22 at the eighth edition of "Peru to the World Expo 2019", an event that will be held at the Metropolitan Full Pavilion in New York, with Bill Yosses, famous White House chef (from 2007 to 2014) and self-proclaimed fan of Peruvian cuisine, as Guest of Honor.
"Bill Yosses, author of the book Desserts For Dummies, served as chef for Presidents George Bush and Barack Obama at the White House," explained Melvi Dávila, organizer and promoter of the event, who also pointed out that the U.S. chef is currently promoting Peruvian cocoa by making delicious desserts and chocolates for his restaurant, Palais by Perfect Pie, in New York.
Another participant will be world-renowned chef, artist and businessman David Burke, one of today's stars of American gastronomy. Burke, chef at Ventanas at the Modern, will be the main speaker at the event with the theme: 'The Importance of Creativity and Fusion in the Food Industry'.
Among the well-known figures of Peruvian gastronomy attending the event is Flavio Solórzano, owner of the restaurant "Señorío de Sulco" in Lima.
According to the organizers, the activity will serve to demonstrate once again why Peru has been recognized for seven consecutive years as "the world's top culinary destination." To which they add that, "it is a great opportunity to taste delicious Peruvian dishes and the exquisite national drink, pisco".
The event
This year, for the first time, Peru to the World Expo is hosting the World Summit of Peruvian Chefs; an event that will bring together several of our leading chefs, who will come from various parts of the United States, as well as Europe and Peru.
Among the main activities are: a live cooking demonstration by Peruvian chefs, whose dishes will be tasted by the public; an exhibition of Peruvian products; and an international seminar. The latter will focus on the topic of Peruvian coffee, with Gracia Ampuero, Peruvian coffee specialist and taster, participating as an exhibitor, and Peruvian coffee grower Dwight Aguilar, winner of the Cup of Excellence 2018, also present. Both are participating with the support of PROMPERÚ.
Like every year, it will also recognize Peruvian talents who have excelled abroad and who have contributed to the country's image. This group includes the renowned Johnny Schuler, as ambassador of Pisco; the businesswoman Antonella Bertello, chosen for the Excellence of the Year award; the remarkable Plastic Surgeon, Otto Cedrón; the pioneer of Peruvian Chifa cuisine, Juan Tong, also known as Chef Tong; Benita Quicaño from Arequipa; and Agustin Jordan from Lambayeque, among others.
The event will also have a space for Peruvian-Chinese cuisine. Chef Tong, with 45 years of experience cooking Chifa, will demonstrate the qualities of this cuisine, along with 30 other Peruvian chefs from across the country who will give master classes.
Our pisco will be a key feature of the event. And, of course, the activities will be accompanied by a live Creole show, folklore, and international music.
"In short, it will be a demonstration of the cuisine of the Incas and the influence brought to Peru by immigrants from Europe (Spain and Italy), Asia (China and Japan), and West Africa, as well as our own culture," said Dávila.
