Once again, the majestic city of Cuzco, Peru, is honored as travelers’ favorite city in the Central and South American region. Travel and Leisure, the well-known US travel magazine, published the results of its ‘2018 World’s Best Awards’, with the so-called ‘Imperial City’ excelling as one of the most outstanding destinations in the world.
According to voter comments, Cuzco dazzles with its invaluable history, its proximity to the Andes, its architecture and the variety of experiences both inside and outside the city. The excellence of Peruvian cuisine also stands out, being ranked as one of the best in the world.
The capital of the Inca Empire ranks higher in the list than cities such as Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Antigua (Guatemala), Buenos Aires (Argentina), and Bogota (Colombia).
Four hotels also received awards in the Best Hotels in the World category. Inkaterra La Casona took fourth place in the global list, as well as best city hotel in Central and South America. Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba also came in 14th place, Tambo del Inka in 35th place and Sol y Luna in 91st place globally. Other hotels operating in our country also appear in other categories such as the Best Resorts in South America and Best City Hotels in Central and South America.
Travel and Leisure has a global readership of 6.7 million and carries out annual traveler surveys to evaluate trends and satisfaction with destinations, hotels, airports and cruises, among others.

The United States is the country which sends the second highest number of tourists to Peru. In 2017 the number of tourists coming from the USA was 598,685 and the main activities of these American tourists during their trips to the South American country are focused on culture (92%), adventure (48%) and nature (58%).
