Success abroad continues! Peru was recognized for its tourist attractions as the best cultural destination in 2017 at the latest International Travel Expo (ITE) in Hong Kong. It was the only South American country that participated in the category.

The hard work of the Peruvian Foreign Trade Office (Ocex), whose headquarters are in Shanghai, allowed eight Peruvian tourism companies to participate in the 31st edition of the ITE, which offered information on national attractions, especially to those who seek to travel to different destinations, called Free Independent Travelers.

About the award

During the four-day exhibition in the Asian country, tour operators provided details, technical information on entry to Peru, travel tips and packages, among others. Meanwhile, the ITE organization and specialized tourism publications in the Hong Kong Economic Times group conducted surveys on the best destinations in the world in various categories, Peru being the best destination in terms of cultural issues.

This recognition will directly affect the increase and decentralization of tourism in Peru, due to the fact that about 120 million Chinese travel abroad each year. Chinese nationals also have greater access to the country due to the exception of the Peruvian visa if they have one from the US, the European Union or Australia, allowing them to not only visit the citadel of Machu Picchu, but also other cultural destinations such as the Nazca Lines, the Chan Chan Citadel, the Kuelap Archaeological Complex and its recently opened cable cars, or the Sacred City of Caral, considered the birthplace of American civilization.

Furthermore, continuing the work of promoting Peru as a favorite tourist destination, the Peruvian Ocex in Beijing and Shanghai will hold a roadshow of national companies in the area, passing through various cities in the country.
