The World Travel Awards are the most important awards in the tourism industry and in its South American version Peru was awarded with four recognitions, including “Best Tourist Attraction” in South America: Machu Picchu. It comes as the Inca sanctuary has just been reopened for tourism.

The other awards for Peru were: "Best Cultural Destination", "Best Green Destination" and "Best Cruise Destination". The winners were announced yesterday at the Latin America Winners Days. The event, unlike other years was held virtually in its 27th edition.

Machupicchu was also elected in 2019 as "Best Tourist Attraction in the World", in the version where all the attractions of the five continents compete and which are considered the "Oscars" of the tourism industry. This event was held in Oman.

It is worth noting that the awards are given to the nominees who have received the most votes on the website of the organizers of the World Travel Awards. This year the winners of the 2020 Grand Final will be announced on November 27.

Reactivation of Peruvian tourism

Tourism is returning responsibly and gradually. Machupicchu already reopened for travelers since November 1st.

"With the reopening of our Wonder of the World, we want to send a message to the world: We are ready to welcome you all, prioritizing health and complying with the sanitary protocols" said Marisol Acosta, director of Tourism Promotion at PROMPERÚ.

“Therefore, as part of our work to support receptive tourism to Peru, the second phase of the 100% digital campaign #DreamthenTravel was launched on November 2nd, which will reach more than 25 million potential travelers and will be translated into 8 languages” Acosta added.

The campaign aims to show how Peru is preparing to receive tourists from the world in a responsible way, and promoting sustainable and solidary tourism.
