Renowned Russian fashion magazine spotlights Peruvian high-end fashion design

Peruvian talent continues to cross borders. In this instance, high-end fashion garments by two prestigious Peruvian designers formed part of the fashion editorial in the July edition of renowned Russian magazine, Numéro.

The designers, Ani Álvarez Calderón and Jorge Luis Salinas, have extensive professional experience and their collections have obtained a significant presence on national and international catwalks.

In the case of Ani Álvarez, whose work is inspired by Peruvian history and folklore, her designs have been showcased in several editions of Fashion Week of the Americas, held in Miami, and her collections have also featured in major fashion events in other countries, such as Colombia, Panama and Mexico.

Jorge Luis Salinas has won several awards in international competitions in Germany and the United States. In 2008, the Spanish version of Vogue made him the worthy winner of the best collection award at Fashion Week in the Americas. Eight years later, he had a successful launch at New York Fashion Week, with a collection inspired by textiles from the Paracas culture.

The designs exhibited in the Russian magazine were made using Peruvian yarns. Top model Julia Banas, who models the garments in the publication, appears first in an alpaca coat by Álvarez Calderón, followed by an embroidered cotton dress and hand-woven alpaca coat by Jorge Luis Salinas.

It is worth highlighting that both Peruvian designers have worked alongside PROMPERÚ on a number of occasions, with the aim of promoting our exportable offer of Peruvian fashion and textiles. Their collections were featured in various editions of PERU MODA, an event that seeks to showcase the best of the Peruvian fashion industry to the world.

This is not the first time the international magazine has included clothing by a Peruvian designer among its pages. Just a few months ago, Colombian artist J Balvin appeared on the cover of the publication wearing a baby alpaca coat designed by our very own talented Yirko Sivirich.
