The study, carried out by PROMPERÚ through Turismo In, revealed that the average expenditure of this type of traveler was $971, with young tourists from Latin America spending the least ($494).
It should be noted that Latin America is where most travelers of this generation come from.
Preferences of millennial tourists
The most visited regions were Lima, Cusco and Puno, and a total of 1.2 million trips took place throughout Peru. This shows a clear growth in this segment in Peruvian tourist destinations.
Millennials mainly choose to vacation in Peru because of what it has to offer, as it is an ideal destination for adventure tourism, connecting with nature and enjoying our rich culture. The most popular activities are trekking and visiting archaeological sites and natural reserves.
It is important to point out that this generation, made up of two billion people worldwide, includes those born between 1979 and 1994. For this reason, PROMPERÚ is implementing new strategies so that travelers belonging to this segment can spend more days getting to know the amazing things the country has to offer.
Distribution of expenses
77% of these tourists purchased tourism, accommodation and food services separately, while 23% bought a package tour. In the first case, the average expenditure was $832.
In the second case, those who bought a package tour spent an average of $1437, with 86% of this total going towards the package deal and 14% going towards "additional expenses".
In addition, four out of ten of these millennials bought their package tours online, while the remaining six did so in person at an agency. Also, 68% declared that the Internet was the medium that most influenced their decision to travel to Peru.
Through this profile, PROMPERÚ provides information that focuses on the millennial generation, which will help service providers in the sector understand and meet their characteristics and needs. This will boost their work and improve the experiences of their customers.
